Wolfratshausen, Germany, January 2026: The artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of SmartRay’s standout automated 3D inline weld inspection solution are redefining quality and process control for welding processes.

JOSY’s new AI-driven algorithm package allows detecting across the entire weld seam borders within seconds, without the need for on-site training. Operators receive instant inspection results of the big five weld characteristics, starting from the very first part captured.

Manufacturers are realizing the benefits of JOSY, with drastically shortened set-up time for inspection of each weld – up to 80% compared to conventional weld inspection systems. JOSY speeds up the commissioning process and reduces overall workload by making data available earlier than traditional systems. Unlike alternatives that delay system utilization until after production has begun, JOSY’s smart analysis means process optimization can start from day one to maximize high quality output and prevent material waste or unnecessary reworking.

JOSY uses zero-shot border detection to accurately inspect weld seams without needing to be retrained for each new component. The JOSY AI algorithms immediately adapt for typical process variations in running production. In conventional weld seam inspection systems, the sensor would need to be manually adjusted for each seam position change. However, SmartRay’s innovative solution detects changes to the seam and automatically adjusts the inspection and analysis parameters without the need for human input, making it almost maintenance free. Rather than spending time on system maintenance, customers can use weld inspection data for 100% quality control and process optimization.

Bernd Lorösch, Vice President Business Unit JOSY, SmartRay, commented: “We’re delighted with the outcome of JOSY’s upgraded AI capabilities. 80% shorter set-up times, and up to an 80% reduction in system maintenance demonstrates how effective JOSY is in practice. Faster installation means our customers can ramp-up their production faster with data-based process optimization in the launch phase, enabling return on investment before the first car hits the street.
